Any eclectic senior living community that offers more than one type of residence and provides assistive services operates a hybrid model. There are lots of senior housing environments that offer variations. We also call these eclectic senior housing environments. They come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, and configurations. For example, some models offer community use of recreational vehicles and camping sites.

Common hybrid models involve when a senior living environment that focuses on one type of residence offers services or amenities that expand the primary level of care to another level. We’ll explore three of these models below.

Independent Living Plus Other Services

Many independent living facilities add “additional” services specifically targeting the most needed senior services like meals, housecleaning, laundry, and home maintenance. For example, they combine elegant apartment accommodations with restaurant-style dining, laundry services, and cultural and recreational programs. This allows well-deserving seniors to trade home maintenance chores for wellness opportunities in an engaging social environment.

Assisted Living Plus Other Services

If you’ve been reading carefully, you recognize that the housing provider is simply offering some different types of apartments (e.g., sizes, kitchens, etc.) combined with basic assisted living services (help with a couple of, or all IADLs).

Keep in mind that independent living for healthy adults is all about upscale amenities like golf courses, lakes, trails, gyms, pools, activities, and restaurants. Whereas, assisted living is all about services for IADLs and some ADLs.
